Using Essential Oils for Menopause should form part of your plan to manage your menopause symptoms
Now is a time for putting you first and having a plan in place that helps you manage your menopause symptoms and going forward the future of your long term health
It’s well established that specific essential oils can help alleviate many of the symptoms associated with peri-menopause and post-menopause such as sleep, anxiety, hot flushes, fatigue and concentration problems.
Here are my top 5 essential oils for menopause
Clary Sage is a relaxing and calming essential oil; it is effective at relieving hot flushes, which for many women cause embarrassment and disruption to their daily lives.
It can help bring relief to stress-full times.
Peppermint’s cooling and refreshing action can bring relief from hot flushes.
It is also an uplifting oil, so when inhaled can help with fatigue and concentration problems
It can also help ease headaches.
For me, Lavender is one of the must-have essential oils.
It is relaxing, so aids sleep; it is balancing and helps ground you mentally.
It’s also great for muscle aches and pains which are very common during peri-menopause and beyond.
It’s good for skin problems which can occur during peri-menopause such as acne, yes sorry to say that just when you thought pimples were behind you, hormone fluctuations have something else in mind!
But the great thing about Lavender, and why it’s a must-have, is that it’s one of the few essential oils that you can use neat without having to dilute into a carrier oil.
Geranium is perfect for balancing hormones and managing anxiety.
Anxiety is common during peri-menopause and causes many women enormous distress.
Geranium is also an excellent essential oil for skin ageing.
Basil helps to balance hormones and helps with mood and especially nerves.
Another common change during peri-menopause is in our digestion. Lowering levels of Oestrogen cause the movement of food through our digestive tract to slow, Basil can help keep your digestion on track.
How to use essential oils
There are many different ways to use essential oils.
You can remove the lid from the bottle and take several deep breaths; this is best if you are looking for relief from stress, anxiety and nerves or if you need a boost in concentration.
Perfect for around the home, combine several oils and let the aromas surround you.
Choose a combination of uplifting oils during the day to improve mood and keep you focused then switch to relaxing and calming blends in the lead up to bed for a restful night.
Dilute in a prefered carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut and apply to skin.
Applying essential oils to the skin is incredibly helpful if for instance, you have some aches and stiffness or if you want some anti-ageing benefits.
For on the go relief a rollerball is a perfect handbag companion
Mix your blend in a carrier oil and then apply to your wrist where ever you are
Menopause is a different experience for every woman, therefore managing your way through this period is very individual to you and there is no magic pill that will deal with all symptoms.
A combination of holistic and medical therapies, diet and lifestyle changes plus exercise will help you navigate this new period in your life and set you up for a healthy and happy future
